Vassiliy Zherebnenko

Vassiliy Zherebnenko is not a man. He’s a machine.

The two-time champion and reigning titleholder at 132 pounds scored an impressive victory Friday night on a Daily News Golden Gloves card that saw four weight classes gathered at the Electric Industry Center in Flushing. The 132-pounders from the open class joined the super heavyweight and heavyweight open novices for quarterfinal action, while two 132-pound novices collided in their fourth preliminary round.Zherebnenko dominated Richard Bonds (Newburgh BC) with an impressive first-round stoppage. The P.C. Richard and Son Boxer of the Night flattened Bonds with three straight standing-eight counts in less than two minutes. “(Tonight) I saw every punch,” Zherebnenko said through a translator. “I like when someone is attacking, (then) I can try to find openings to counter.”

If Zherebnenko is the man to beat, Titus Williams (Freeport PAL) is nipping at his heels. The 132-pounder looked stellar as well, tearing apart Victor Vazquez (Willis Ave. BC) with precision and power for a one-sided 5-0 victory. Williams seemed to land every punch he threw, including a perfectly timed uppercut that earned Empire City Casino Punch of the Night honors.“I have the chance to make history,” Williams said. “For 85 years the finals were at Madison Square Garden. Hopefully, 85 years from now they’ll say Titus Williams was the first 132-pound open (boxer) to win at the Barclays (Center).”Even the fancy footwork of Jude Paulemon (Unattached) couldn’t elude heavyweight Zayd Hamilton (Judah Bros. BC), who powered his way to a 5-0 win and a semifinals berth. Hamilton, whose father Sulaiman won two Gloves titles, punished Paulemon with some beautiful body work, keeping his mobile challenger grounded.
“I saw (Paulemon) fight in his last fight and I knew he was definitely a runner, but knew he didn’t know how to fight on the inside,” Hamilton said. “I feel like I’m building up each fight. Next time I’ll be even better.”
